Understanding the Life Believers Receive in Christ
This section focuses on the sermon’s central theme: the meaning of everlasting life and the speaker’s interpretation of the “power of an endless life.”
Everlasting Life: More Than a Promise
Now, the most popular verse of the Bible that most people can recite of by heart is what? John 3:16. See, you’re right. John 3:16. But let’s look at it, can we? All right. It says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have
everlasting life.” Everlasting life. So, meaning when you believe in Jesus, you have everlasting life, right? You believe and you have. Look at chapter 6 and verse 47. St. John’s gospel. Look at it. Verily, I want you all to read it. One to go. Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that believeth on me hath everlasting life. Did you see that?
That’s not a promise. That’s a statement of fact. If you believe in Jesus, you have everlasting life. What is everlasting life? It’s constructed from a Greek rendering Aion, Zoe, meaning it’s a life of a particular age a life of a particular pause. That’s important. It means he’s not dealing with the duration of the life but the quality of the life or type of life of the period of the times. Ion Zoe, you know, it’s it it’s in the Bible life, everlasting, everlasting life. You know, it it’s flipped this way or that way. All right? But he’s referring to a particular kind of life over a period, an age.
Ion is age, a cause of time an era. So, when you look at this everlasting life or eternal life, same word, same words in the Greek, eternal life or everlasting life. Same words, same words. You’re referring to something more of a quality than a duration. In the Old Testament, it looked more at the extent, the duration.
But there’s a reason for the duration. Here’s the beautiful thing about how it works in the Greek versus how it works in the Hebrew. In the Hebrew, it works that the duration is because of who it is connected to. So, God Almighty is eternal. So, he lives everlastingly because he is God.
Do you get it? In the Greek is the other way. Is the other way. The duration is based on the quality. So, because this life is indestructible it continues ever. So, it’s about the quality of the life because of the period the age where that life exists. How many of how many of you are following what I’m sharing with you? Are you getting what I’m saying? Okay, let’s take a little step further.
What Does “Endless” Mean?
There’s a word that’s used in the King James language that’s very beautiful, very beautiful. It’s used twice, but each time it’s from a different Greek word. That means a different original word. So, um, we might say the translations didn’t have to go that way. So, in some in some versions, they use completely different words.
Okay? But it’s easy to approach it from the King James because of what I want to tell you. So, the first one is in First Timothy chapter 1 and verse number four. 1 Timothy chapter 1. He says, “Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies which minister questions rather than godly define which is in fate.” So do the word I want you to observe there is the word endless. Endless now don’t mind if I mention the Greek words. Don’t mind. The reason I’m mentioning them is just to help you understand the distinction in the English language. Okay, that’s the reason. So, you don’t need to memorize or think about it’s just for some clarity.
So, he says endless genealogies endless. The word endless is what I want you to see. Apparent is the word that’s picked from the coin Greek to give us endless. It means interminable. Interminable. Endless without conclusion. No terminus. You see it says endless genealogies like we say endless arguments.
So don’t get me involved in endless arguments. It means we get into these arguments and there are no conclusions. We just keep going interminable. And it can get more meaningful with limits to say it’s limitless. It’s boundless. No place to stop. We just keep talking. You get it? So that’s the that’s the way it’s used. And it’s used only in this place in the Bible.
But the English version uses that same word in another place, the word endless. Okay? You go to Hebrews chapter 7. In verse number 16, he’s talking about Jesus Christ. Okay? But let’s see if we if we read it from 15, it can get you into it. It says, “And it is yet far more evident for that after the similitude of Melchizedek, there ariseth another priest because um God in prophetic words through the psalmist spoke to the son and says, “Thou art the priest forever after the order of Melchisedec.” Okay, so that’s what he’s referring to here. So, about this priest who is made it’s talking about Jesus who is made not after the law of a carnal commandment but after the power of an endless life. This is absolutely remarkable.
The Power of an Indestructible Life
The power of an endless life. Now look at it yourself. Read it. Read it one to go. That is amazing. But this is the this is the second place the word endless is used in the Bible. But this time it’s translated from a different word from the one that we read. Akatalytos is the word this time different from apparent.
You see it? So, they don’t mean the same thing here. It means indissoluble, undissolvable. You get it? It means unbreakable. So, the best word for it is indestructible. Indestructible. You can’t break it. You can’t destroy it. You can’t damage it. You can’t reduce it. So, it’s talking about the power the life of Jesus Christ. The power of an endless life. He says his priesthood is based on the power of an endless life of an indestructible life. This is absolutely remarkable because he’s describing eternal life. This is the life that Jesus has, indestructible life. When you gave your heart to Jesus Christ and you said, “Lord, I receive by faith eternal life.” What you received was this life, Akatalytos. Endless, indestructible. If you’re born again, that is the life you have inside you. It can be damaged by disease. It can be broken down. Somebody says, “I broke down last week.” You broke down. What happened to What happened to the life that Christ gave you? When you receive that life, you don’t break down no more.
No such thing as I broke down. You don’t break down. No more breaking down. disease will not have impact on your body. Yes, sir. That’s what Jesus meant when he said these signs shall follow them that believe. One of those signs he says, “And if they shall drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them.” If they shall drink any deadly thing, any deadly thing, it’ll have no power over you.
That is amazing. That’s what Jesus said because he knew what he gave you. Say, I live I live by the power by the power of an endless life. Indestructible life. That’s the power. That’s the life you have inside you. You see the knowledge of truth is important because the knowledge of truth activates its power. If you don’t know it, it will not work.
It doesn’t work just because you have it. Hey, if you had a spare tire in your car and you didn’t know it and you have a problem with your tire on the way, you’re going to be standing there frustrated, not knowing what to do. Then imagine if you knew it was there, but you didn’t know how to fix it. You have the same problem. Now you have it, you don’t know how to fix it. So, you’re
The Holy Spirit and the Life of Christ there frustrated like somebody who doesn’t have it. You’re no different. So, it’s good to know the truth and know how to apply it. When you received Christ, you received an endless indestructible life. That’s what you got. when you received Christ into your heart. Now, he also told you what to do to transfer the power, all of that life to go through your body.
Are you in this place? Are you following what I’m telling you? Yes, sir. That’s why he told you about the Holy Spirit. to receive the Holy Spirit. So the Holy Spirit can live in you. The Holy Spirit becomes your teacher, your guide, becomes your helper. And through the Holy Spirit, the life inside you will be transferred to every single part of your body through the Holy Spirit’s ministry in your life. That’s one of the things the Holy Spirit does for you. You know, without the Holy Spirit helping you understand this and put it to work, you’ll have so much power inside you that you don’t know how to use. And you can be sick like anybody else. Anything can happen to you that will happen to anybody else. Meanwhile, you are not an ordinary person, but you live an ordinary life because you don’t know.
